The list for roadblocks to success is a never ending one. We know what we are not supposed to do and what we are supposed to do. Eating burger when we are stressed out, watching porn every now and then, indulging in procrastination or weird fetishes – these are all symptoms of bad habits – something which we started doing when we were a little innocent, not realizing the repercussions of the same when we enter an age where its difficult to change.

Picture Quote: One year of hard work to reverse a lifetime of bad habits? Seems worth it.

Human Mind, after a certain age, gets into a comfort zone where it doesn’t want to change. So if you have a binge eating disorder, or simply a wrecked life, chances are you will continue having it forever because it’s difficult to change now. But is it really the end of the road? Should we just give up? I have some really bad habits. And I am fighting daily to diminish them. Till now, I haven’t met with much success but every new day there is a light of hope. I have researched a lot about this subject, and there are a lot of interesting theories behind this in the field of psychology and human behavioral science. But for now, I am going to just share in this post the different ways through which we can eradicate the monsters from our life – those dreary bad habits that lead to our downfall.

  1. Mindfulness: Mindfulness just means being aware of the thoughts. Often, we try to fight with our negative emotions. This theory says that every thought needs to be accepted. Just observe the thoughts – whether good or bad. Don’t react to it. Thoughts are fleeting moments – they come and go like the tides of sea. For example, when you get stressed out and feel the urge to order a pizza from dominos, just observe the thought. Try not to react to it and you will be surprised how fast that feeling of stress goes.
  2. Meditation: This is an extension to mindfulness. Meditation not only enhances your cognitive abilities, but also empowers you to have control over your thoughts, which invariably gives you control over your actions and that’s how you can tame the bad habits.
  3. Chanting : This is again a spiritual way of dealing with monsters. I personally find the OM NAMAH SHIVAYA chanting to be very powerful whenever a thought to indulge in my habit comes in my mind. Just close your eyes and chant the mantra several times. Surprisingly, you will see how the negative thought just disappears and your mind becomes lighter and calmer. In fact, there is beautiful knowledge behind this mantra. Our ancient Yogis have advised us to chant this mantra 108 times daily. There are 9 planets and 12 zodiac signs and together their positioning can affect us in 12*9=108 ways! Chanting this mantra helps to nullify any negative effect and enhance the positive effect of the planets on us!
  4. Excessive indulgence: I’ve read about this from various sources, but haven’t tried it personally. If you procrastinate, procrastinate so much that you become sick of it. If watching too much of porn is your monster, then watch so much of it that you literally cannot see it anymore. And then close your eyes and observe how much of time you wasted in your life. Maybe when you start repelling your bad habits by over indulging in them, you will eventually stop doing them.

These are some of the ways  through which we can fight our monsters. I am sure there are many more, but to cut the long story short – it doesn’t matter how you win this game, what matters is that you win the game!

Here’s hoping that all of us are able to defeat our monsters so that we can become much better and successful personalities!
